Foundation Beyler: Basel, Switzerland

The marble in this stall was so polished I could practically see my reflection in it. I have long wanted to visit this museum and was not disappointed. A huge Jeff Koon floral dog head rests in the garden, an exhibition of late work by Degas was the special exhibit and the main collection is stunning and wonderfully displayed in human scales rooms filled with natural light. One had African masks with a Rousseau jungle painting and a couple of Picasso paintings, while another had 6 deep hued Rothkos and 4 large Giacometti sculptures. Bliss. There were also floor to ceiling windows that brought the landscape into the rooms, especially effective with a small pond outside and a massive three panel water lily painting by Monet inside. I could go on and on.
