Schiller’s Bar:Manhattan

How could you not love a bar in the lower east side that has a big old trough as a communal wash basin for the restrooms. I loved my drink which was muddled basil, tequila ,mint and cayenne pepper on the rim. Yum.

I am 5'6" and I had to reach for this paper towel dispenser. What are the short people supposed to do? Thanks to my daughter in law for bringing me to see the opera Anna Nicole Smith. Think it has been an iconic, if rather depressing, experience. The audience certainly is going wild for it.

Do they consider this atmospheric Italian lighting or are they saving on their energy bill? My third Italian restaurant in as many days. Why am I bothering to fly to Italy next week? br />

Museo del Barrio:Manhattan

I know this is meant for babies, but I think there is value in the idea of a fold out couch in museum restrooms. I sure could use one this afternoon to take a little break and put my feet up.

So classy to have your logo, especially if it is a leopard, emblazoned on the hand towels. Like the Italian marble counter too and the look of the new digs for this favorite Italian restaurant. Thankfully it is still across 54th street from the MoMA. Serious competition for The Modern in my book.

Peeling restroom signs are not that unusual, but the look if this one could have been enough to dissuade me from eating here. What a shame that would have been. Despite its disguise as a lowly local dive, it was one of the best breakfasts ever. I totally indulged in veggie has browns with a soft booked egg. Oh, did I forget to mention that the restroom was in the back of the kitchen and the sink was actually in the kitchen. Got to watch the chef at his griddle while drying my hands.

I have no clue what Weegis means in German, which is the country of origin, but I love the idea that this overly relaxed beauty would be suffering from what I think of as a wedgie! On to The Side Door in Old Lyme to listen to some jazz masters after a yummy dinner and informative discussion of the background of some if the performers given by my enthusiastic drum playing host.

River Quest:East Haddam,CT

Boat heads are always special. This one is pretty industrial and very clean. After a hot day it was delightful to board this vessel for a cruise down the CT River where we saw 4 eagles, several osprey, a number of herons and, our ultimate goal, hundreds of thousands of sparrows gathering at sunset to bed down in the reeds for the night. An unbelievable display.
