Fun being in Art Deco country- notice the floor tiles. This round stall knob could be a challenge after a couple of cocktails, but was not too big a coordination challenge at noontime. This old mansion turned funeral parlor turned art center is a staple of the community with shows of rising and mid-career artists as well as local student work. The display was impressive. Totally thrilled to see my friend Francine Bishop Good's exhibition of photos in the main gallery.

I know this is meant for babies, but I think there is value in the idea of a fold out couch in museum restrooms. I sure could use one this afternoon to take a little break and put my feet up.

Flawless translation of an industrial space into a public restroom including the original signage for sick days logged by the staff. The entire museum is an exciting use of long vacant industrial space and the exhibitions are always startlingly original. Don't miss Xu Bing's 'Phoenix'. Awesome.

This kind of glass wall tile and light fixture are more commonly found in private homes. They are very different from the style of the rest of this splendid 1906 townhouse. Also delighted to discover this gallery which a friend from London suggested I visit. I look forward to making my way more directly on the subway on future trips. Suffice it to say that heading towards Queens was not the right direction in the M.

Love the way the exit signs line up outside this restroom area. And can you see the fabulous wall paper they placed with artwork signage on the left wall. This is the modern wing addition which was designed by Renzo Piano. It is fantastic.

This very minimal typeface is indicative of the style here. Wonderful light filled spaces with a surprisingly good display of contemporary art in thoughtfully curated small shows. You never know.

You only find sinks like this in old mansions. I got to use the Employees restroom, hence all the stuff on and around the sink. You should have seen the rest of the stuff in there.

This might be the most painterly restroom I have ever been in. Truly inspired. Imagine how long it took to sponge all this paint on every surface.

A magnificent old house whose rooms have been filled with art and furnishings from various periods. Would not have expected a red door handle here. Saw a small- maybe 20 paintings- show called the Making of Picasso. All work from 1901, his first year in Paris. Really a gem.
