Little Owl:Manhattan

Originally was going to attach a photo of the restroom sign which says LOO, but then I opened the door and saw the RED toilet. How could I resist? This is a tiny and charming west village eatery. The food did not live up to its reputation for me, but was fine and nicely presented. Not sure why the water glasses have red roosters on them rather than owls, but I had a set just like them years ago, so they evoked a pleasant nostalgia.

These trough sinks are all the rage. I like the look, but being so shiny white and with overbright lighting, feels a bit like an operating scrub room. Overall the renovations here are most welcome, especially the new seats. Steve Martin's adaptation of The Underpants was entertaining and humorous. Wish he had been in the stage. Sigh.

What an unusual door handle. A quick and delicious breakfast with views from the other side of the 6th floor dining room and then off to the shop I passed as it was closing last night. I did manage to purchase 3 pairs of gloves before diner at the foot of the Spanish Steps and meet the founder of Sermonata gloves who has a home in Westport, CY

This is the cutest waste basket I have ever seen anywhere. The marble floor is pretty swish as well. And the view from the restaurant on the 6th floor is amazing. Perfect sunset viewing and Ancient Rome musing.

Starting today's bike ride from this little town just north of Gallipoli. The sun is shining down for the first time this trip and I like the reflection of the Sea colors in the soap and toilet paper dispensers in the restroom. Riding across the boot today from the Mare Ionio to the Adriatic.

Another Masseria which is shorter on luxury, but way beyond most for charm and historic restoration. A working olive oil producing farm with century old trees and 10 bedrooms surrounded by secluded terraces with inviting seating. Great for a wedding. We had a wine tasting, pasta making class and candle light buffet in the original olive pressing room. Amazing. Scary getting out of the narrow, twisting dirt road in a deluge of rain, but we made it.

Love this combination of tiles and red plaster wall. Looks like an abstract collage with the toilet roll stuck on the wall. Nasty bar tender would not give me any ice for my sore elbow, the result if a fall on a wet stone road, but he made a great cup of cappuccino.

Forgot to get the name of this restaurant/resort where we had lunch and then began a 6 day bike trip through Puglia. Not crazy about the dried flower arrangement, but if the home style changing table is indicative, I think this will be a friendly part of the country to spend time in. The landscape so far is wonderful.

Had to dash back into the hotel to use the ground floor restroom on the way back to the Vaporetto to go home, so could not resist another photo. A hint of the aforementioned fresh orchid and full on with the Venitian glass wall sconce. So lovely.

How could you not love a bar in the lower east side that has a big old trough as a communal wash basin for the restrooms. I loved my drink which was muddled basil, tequila ,mint and cayenne pepper on the rim. Yum.
