La Mamounia:Marrakech,Morocco

This fabled grand hotel which rests just inside the walls of the medina had a facelift a few years ago and it seems worthy of all the praise it has received. Steeped in Moroccan tiling and carving with acres of plantings, outdoor and indoor infinity pools, clay tennis courts, a spa with a Hammam and a courtyard of shops, one hardly needs to leave the premises to experience the lush exoticism that is morocco, at least as celebrities like Yves St Laurent would have found it.

I don't get to this neighborhood much these days and even less often am I in a 4 story private brownstone filled with wonderful folk art. A real treat to wander around as well as to look at the jewelry which the owner designs. This is what I call a twofer.

Only in Miami do you find so many museum like private collections and this is one of the best. Makes sense that the signage in the restroom would be in art installation style. This year the public was treated to works by 29 Chinese artists. Most interesting art seen this far.

A year since I have dunes in this unheated former hunting cabin by a lake. It has new flooring in the kitchen (checkerboard teal and tan) and in the tiny bathroom(green flecked with white). It was as warm as toast with a fire blazing, pistou simmering and friends laughing. A spirited evening indeed.

I have no clue what Weegis means in German, which is the country of origin, but I love the idea that this overly relaxed beauty would be suffering from what I think of as a wedgie! On to The Side Door in Old Lyme to listen to some jazz masters after a yummy dinner and informative discussion of the background of some if the performers given by my enthusiastic drum playing host.

Using this restroom becomes almost a religious experience. I live stained glass and this is a wonderful way to hide the driveway and keep ones privacy. Rather than try to install the glass, it is laid over the existing window. So smart!

This is how the successful artists live here. Unlike in the States, artists are amongst the wealthiest Cubans, especially if they are able to exhibit and sell abroad and bring those monies back to Cuba where the monthly wage is $20.

A magnificent old house whose rooms have been filled with art and furnishings from various periods. Would not have expected a red door handle here. Saw a small- maybe 20 paintings- show called the Making of Picasso. All work from 1901, his first year in Paris. Really a gem.

Have you ever seen fixtures this color? I haven't. I do have a frequently worn DKNY tee like it which may be why I find it so appealing. Can you see the shell on the sink in its little stand and the reflection of the embroidered hand towels in the mirror? So beachy
