The Pearl Laguna:Laguna Beach,CA

Everywhere at this spa there are delicate touches of calm. An abundance of orchids is one of them. The setting of a beautiful dinner table is another. Tonight was an Asian theme with rose petals complimenting vases with a single orchid stem, napkin holders carved like sumo wrestlers with cotton napkins, dark placemats and a tiny dish of fresh grated ginger at each place. Grilled tofu and Vegetable stir dry. Fresh and delicious.

Rarely has a room of shell items been as charming as this. More pictures to follow as I am at the spa for the week. Hard work but everyone is so nice- even the 10 other guests.

Ocean House: Watch Hil, RI

This is a view of the bathroom from the bedroom. An ingenious design with a large shuttered space that can be opened if you want to talk to your bedmate while luxuriating in the soaking tub and watching a movie on the little tv that is just out of sight to the left or closed for privacy. A most luxurious and relaxing Chateaux Relais property, as they remind you every time they answer the phone. Three of us piled into a delux king room on a gray and chilly Saturday and enjoyed spa treatments, the steam room, a delicious dinner, the silky cotton sheets and a long walk on the beach on a sunny Sunday morning. A great- though costly- girls overnight.

Heirloom at The Study: New Haven, CT

This looks like an expensive spa restroom more than a trendy hotel/restaurant one. Notice the choice of cloth or paper for drying your hands. Hard to see, but the flat surface with the kleenex box is lit from underneath. Totally cool. The food was good as well. Loved the fresh taste of the olive oil on the light, crusty slices of bread. Some unusual offerings liked smokes, sauteed ramps and kale salad. Everyone in the group of 5 was happy.

Niobe: Manhattan

A neighborhood nail salon whose restroom is minimal, but striving to add a bit of interest. The staff is entirely Aisian, which is pretty common, and the manicures are quick and efficient. I was heading to my son's engagement party, so wanted a sprucing up of my minimal and uneven nails. One day I will stop picking them I hope. Feels like I am calm enough after this spa week to manage it.

Another example of the Mexican influence in this charming sink in one of the restrooms off the main lounge.

So far, so good. The spa is lovlier than the online photos and I am living in splendor in a large room with a sunny, quiet outdoor lounging area where I can catch the morning sun and watch the evening sunset. I love the Mexican influence in my bathroom with the tiles and sort of wall separating the toilet from the tub. Plenty of room in here with a long shelf for all my stuff. Oh and the old shower space is now the closet. How do I know? They left the shower head in place!

Not only can you have any kind of spa service known to man here, but you can also find out what is happening in town or who will clean your house or watch your pet.  That's full service.

My friend Frank has the best taste.  How lovely and zen is this bathroom. I visit it before and after every facial. One day I will use the shower. For now I just enjoy the fun rubber slippers and cosy terry robe and the hour of bliss on the padded bed, lights dim, music soft and Patty working her potions into my skin.I come out all sparkling like Cinderella's coach.Too bad I am back to being a wrinkly pumpkin the next day.
