Jetwing Lighthouse: Galle, Sri Lank

Posted in Hotel, Observations, Strange |

All western toilets here have a spray option next to them. This is by far the most luxe version I have seen. Even has a drain in the floor to keep allow the water to seep away. I now understand why so many of the toilets have had wet tiles. Nevertheless, I have been stumped as to how to dry off after spraying. Bring paper towels into the stall? I still don't have a good answer, but being poolside and already having a wet bottom, this became a lovely alternative to soggy toilet paper. (My friend suggested the sprayer was to clean the floor!).

La Langouste:Flamands,St. Bart’s

I love the simplicity of a fish tile in a white bathroom. This restaurant is located in a charming small hotel on the beach. We are lunching here for the second day in a row. Mojitos and fresh grilled lobster. Yum.

Another example of the lovely tile work that can be found in this exotic land. A last night's dinner at the villa across the drive who live in Northern Ireland. 12 English and Irish folks and the 4 of us. We brought a yummy grated carrot salad. Had a fish they call tuna but was nothing like what we eat in America. A fleshy white meat.

Hilton Hotel:Berlin

This is a photo of the bathroom in my room on the second floor where I will be for the next 5 nights, but what I want to write about is the Health Club here. I forgot to being my phone, so don't have a picture. Not that the restroom was so memorable, but the Crystal Steam Room looked like something Antonio Gaudi would have designed- an 8 person horseshoe shaped deep bench tiled in iridescent green and aqua with a central slab holding a huge block of natural crystal. Steam was poring in every few minutes and the walls were dripping with moisture. Didn't get my massage due to the therapist becoming ill, so swam some laps and lounged in the steam and then doused in a shower with full body surround heads. Totally refreshed and have now stayed up to a respectable hour. Nighty night.

Guess I got too rushed by the person waiting for the restroom when I took this photo. Too bad because this was a fantastic bathroom in a special apartment in the El Dorado, one of those high security apartment buildings, this one on the upper west side. There was nothing fuzzy about the presentation I heard by Paul Farmer foundr of Partners in Health. An amazing man and an amazing organization that is truly saving and changing lives in many of the poorest countries.

Lyman Allyn Museum: New London

I love this old fashioned restroom with its white tiles and wooden stall doors. And I have never had to wait to use one.

Hartford Stage: Hartford, CT

WOW! Knew it had been a while since I went to the Hartford Stage, but did not realize they had renovated the lobby and installed all new restrooms. This is only half of the stalls. No more spending the entire intermission waiting for a chance to pee at this theater. Will make for better concession sales! Love this center island with back to back sink arrangements where everyone has their own mirror towel dispenser and trash hole. The play was equally delightful- Bell, Book and Candle with New London's own Kate MacCluggage. Only 4 days left to see it.

Old Lyme Inn: Old Lyme, CT

The newly renovated Old Lyme Inn is the place to be it seems- at least the night I went to dinner. Didn't seem like anyone I knew had stayed home. Loved the Spring Pea Soup which was minty and fresh. Also the lamb chops which were rare and delicious. The interior is much lighter, cleaner and entirely welcoming. Think this will be a great asset to the area, especially when the jazz club in the back gets started.

You know how sometimes you get rushed into leaving a party by the people who are giving uyou a ride home and only when you reach the car do you realize you need to pee? Well that's what happened to me this night and we had at least a 2 hour drive back to CT, so I asked the doorman if there was a restroom in the lobby- they have to go somewhere right? So here it is. Much better than the one in my building. Guess Fifth Avenue overlooking the reservoir vs. lower Park Avenue buildings have more differences than one could imagine.

LaGuardia Airport: New York

This is not the handicapped stall, but still had lots of room for my roller bag. And was clean and modern. I like flying in and out of this airport and it is under half an hour from my New York apartment if there is no traffic. Not bad.
